Enfield selective licensing: does your rental property need a licence?
Published October 2026 · 2 min read · Last reviewed 12 October 2026
If you let a property in Enfield, it is important to check whether it needs a selective licence. This can apply to homes let to a family or to one or two people, not just shared accommodation.
Enfield’s current selective licensing scheme began on 1 September 2026 and covers 17 wards. Whether your property needs a licence depends on its address and circumstances, including any applicable exemption.
Check your property’s address
Use the address checker on Enfield Council’s selective licensing page to check your property. If you are unsure about the result or an exemption, contact the Council’s licensing team at prsh@enfield.gov.uk with the full property address.

Applying for a licence
Enfield Council’s guidance explains how to apply, which information and documents are required, and the current fees.
Before applying, gather your property and tenancy records and check that the information is accurate and up to date. Keep a copy of your application and any correspondence with the Council.

Keeping your licence information up to date
Once a licence is issued, read its conditions carefully and keep it with your property records. Check the Council’s guidance if the property’s management or occupancy changes.
